Ever needed to access the Spanish you know you know… but the words just won’t come?
Swear you understand Spanish when you hear it, but freeze when it’s time to speak?
More than one-third of Angelenos speak Spanish at home, and we want more canvassers to feel confident that when they knock on a door, they can make a real connection with the person who answers.
This Spanish for Canvassing Social is for people who took years of Spanish and forgot most of it, people who understand more than they speak, and people with a can-do attitude who want a few practical tools to keep in their back pocket while door knocking. Fluent Spanish speakers are also encouraged to join as conversation buddies and support others.
During the event, we’ll be:
- Practicing real canvassing conversations in Spanish
- Learning simple phrases that come up at the door
- Postcarding in Spanish and English
- Pairing up with conversation buddies from the Mutual Aid Committee
- Ordering food from the amazing vendors at Mercado La Paloma (maybe en español 😉)
It’s a chance to practice out loud, make some mistakes, and get more comfortable reaching across language barriers.
If you want to learn and practice, or if you’d like to volunteer as a Spanish conversation buddy, you should sign up. This event may become a recurring series, so come help us build it!
